Melan Smith-Francis, CNM, FNP
Melan is a board Certified Nurse-Midwife and a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a graduate of Florida A&M University (Biology), Austin Peay State University (Nursing), Vanderbilt University (Midwifery) and Tennessee State University (Post Master’s Certificate- Family Nurse Practitioner). She is currently working on her Doctorate of Nursing Practice through the University of Tennessee. She started her nursing career 11 years ago at the Vanderbilt Emergency Department. From that time, she has spent her career building upon her objectives toward her mission. As an Assistant Professor of Nursing, she has prepared baccalaureate of science nurses to be true nursing advocates for mothers and children. She has served as a women’s health preceptor to advanced practice nursing students. As an experienced advanced practice nurse, she manages both acute and chronic diseases. She is the Certified Nurse-Midwife representative for the Tennessee Department of Health. Melan is a member of the nursing honor society, Sigma Theta Tau as well as the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs and the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She recently traveled to China to present her article on “Ultrasound Technology”, an article published to enhance nurses’ communication with clients in regard to ultrasound studies. One of her missions is to decrease the cesarean rate as well as the preterm birth rate by empowering women and families to take hold of their health and nutrition. The beginning of this vision will unfold here at Eve's.
Shondell Hickson, ACNS-BC, FNP
Shondell serves as the back-up provider for services rendered. She is a board certified Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist and Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a graduate of Austin Peay State University (Nursing), Murray State University (Clinical Nurse Specialist) and Tennessee State University (Post Master's Certificate- Family Nurse Practitioner). Shondell gained her appreciation of holistic medicine and healing through her South American culture. She believes in access and affordability of health care. Her vision is to use her knowledge and skills to practice evidence-based advanced nursing and decrease disease processes.
Kathy Zimmerman, FNP, AHN
Kathy serves as the back-up provider for services rendered. She is a board certified Holistic and Family Nurse Practitioner. Kathy is an assistant
professor at APSU School of Nursing. She gained her pediatric nursing experience from the NICU and surgery stepdown at Vanderbilt's Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in
Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing, with a focus on holistic nursing,
from Tennessee State University in Nashville, where she received the
Outstanding Holistic Nursing Award. Her upbringing in Asia, influenced her
interests in holistic therapies and her desire to bring natural healing choices
to her clients. She also has a postgraduate master’s in nursing from TSU as a
Family Nurse Practitioner. Kathy has experience as a family nurse practitioner, treating
clients with acute and chronic disease. She also offers private
holistic therapies. She is a member of the American Nurses Association,
Tennessee Nurses Association, the American Holistic Nurses Association and
Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society.
